More women in Iraqi media (week 2)

July 15, IMCK started its second week in the training of Kurdish female graduates in the basics of civil and professional journalism. Fifteen participants attend the second week that focuses on how to use Internet and social media in a professional way. Also attention to the use of infographics will be given. Khaled Suleiman and Internet-expert Sardasht Aziz are the trainers during this workshop. Last week the participants got an introduction to the basics of journalism and what news is. Media in Iraqi Kurdistan need more female journalists. They are needed to make the media more interesting for the big target group of women that are hardly reached now. Even though women make up the majority of all Iraqi's, they are hardly to be seen in the media. The training will last for six weeks with a focus on different subjects. Info graphics on the second level

For those who already have a basic knowledge on making info graphics for TV, international trainer Ceasare Schuit started a five day training at the mediacentre in Sulaymania. Participants are from different TV stations in Iraqi Kurdistan. They will be taught how to better use the combination of different softwares to make info graphics for TV. Ceasare Schuit is a TV designer specialized in making info graphics, who works for different clients in the Netherlands.

Info graphics for TV editors

International trainer Ceasare Schuit started a workshop on making info graphics for TV for editors of TV stations in Baghdad and other Arab Iraqi towns. The five day workshop started on Saturday September 10, 2011 in the training hall of IMCK in Erbil. The twelve participants come from all over Iraq. The training is a joint project of IMCK and the Doha Centre for Media Freedom (DC4MF). It is meant to provide Iraqi TV with staff that can make info graphics, thus enhancing the quality of the Iraqi  media. The workshop is the start of a more regular cooperation between IMCK and DC4MF, as the latter intends to reach out to Iraqi media through IMCK. Ceasare Schuit is an experience TV editor who specialized in making info graphics. He is secunded by IMCK co-trainer Ako Mohammed.

How to make an info graphic

Info graphics can help the reader and viewer to understand information better. They show numbers and statistics in a graphic way. Info graphics make (news)papers and TV bulletins more interesting and informative. That is why IMCK started, in cooperation with Irex, a 8 day workshop in Irbil on info graphics. On May 24 Dutch trainer Karin Timmerman opened the workshop for 13 Kurdish designers and journalists, who are very 'computer literate'. She works with them on Adobe Illustrator. Participants come from newspapers, sites and TV stations all over Iraqi Kurdistan. The training takes place at the computer room of Irex in Irbil. Timmerman is working as a graphic designer at the Dutch daily Trouw. Her co-trainer/translator is Kurdish journalist Ako Muhamed.
