Background radio at IMCK


Nine young journalists joined Dutch radiomaker Fieneke Diamand at the IMCK for a 3 day workshop on background radio. The workshop started at July 26, 2009.


Diamand has been working for most of her career in radio, and is specialized in background programs. She worked with the participants on formula's, idea's, how to keep a longer program interesting, etc.


She also visited a number of radio stations in Sulaymaniya and Halabja to discuss ways to make background programs more interesting.

The first part of IMCK workshop on Knowledge Awareness of Oil and Gas finishes in Kalar Ali Ghazi from Nature Iraq explains how oil and gas impact on the environment and IMCK journalism trainer Khaled Suleiman helps the journalists develop story ideas.   Part 2 of the workshop is in Sulaymaniya in December.  Experts on  oil and gas will give information to help journalists become more specialized on the topic.

KDP women training

Gregor Niessen ,an expert on capacity building for political parties and NGO ’s started on March 15 a 5-day training for 24 women from the Kurdish Democratic Party ( KDP . The other days he will train together with Sabina Gazic , member of the Amsterdam City Council. They will make the women more aware of the political process and encourage them to strive to reach top positions within the KDP . They will talk with them about how to get this more visible role and how to get trough the ceiling.
